Although his iconic guise of white fedora, jacket and sunglasses has been thoroughly satirized, it’s easy to overlook the genuinely gifted artistry of Leon Redbone. For more than 30 years and fifteen albums, Redbone has remained musically resonant and personally elusive, continuing his love affair with tunes from the turnof-the-century, flapper-era radio ditties, expression spawned ragtime and World War II folk-jazz. If there is one common element to Redbone’s diverse music, it’s his mastery of his acoustic guitar.
