2016 - 2017 Exploration Series

The Exploration Series is our school day performances for young people. These programs are offered through our area schools with students in grades Pre-K through 12. Students are bussed in to see the performance during the school day. Each performance sparks the imagination and demonstrates the impact and importance of the arts in our children's lives.

Please check with your child's school to see if they are participants in this wonderful program, as registration is required through your child's school or home school. Please contact the Box Office at 937.328.3874 for more information.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Grades 1-7)

Thursday, December 8, 2016 | 10 a.m.

Study Guide for Teachers: Download the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Study Guide (PDF)

This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. This strange and wondrous place is ruled by the cold-hearted White Witch, who makes the winter last year round. Although they seem unlikely saviors, the children fulfill an ancient prophecy by defeating the witch, thus restoring sunshine and peace to the spell-bound Narnia and returning the great Lion King Aslan to his throne. (Produced by TheatreWorks)

The Orchestra Moves - Springfield Symphony Orchestra (Grades 3-5)

Wednesday, March 1, 2017 | 10 a.m.

Registration Deadline: December 15, 2016* (Register online)

Supplemental materials will be provided by the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.  Please contact Alek Peugh or call 937.325.8100

By any definition, music moves. Melody, rhythm and harmony all change, shift and develop. When an orchestra plays for us, we can hear sounds move as the musicians change their pitches, rhythms and dynamics. We can see the musicians’ bodies move as they play. Through the Link Up repertoire with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, offering hands-on activities and a culminating in an interactive performance with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, you will discover how the orchestra moves. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned by singing and playing a recorder or violin from their seats in the audience.

*In order to fully participate in this hands-on concert, registration is requested by December 15, 2016. This will ensure that schools/teachers receive the necessary supplemental materials in advance. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will contact those who have registered to explain this unique and exciting process. If registration is received after December 15, students will still be able to attend and observe the concert, but will be unable to participate.

Admission: $5/student (one complimentary teacher admission per 10 elementary or 20 middle/high school students)
