The multi-faceted Alison Brown is a Harvard graduate, record label founder and owner, mother and banjo virtuoso with an instrumental sound that blends jazz, bluegrass, latin and folk music. Brown was nominated for a Grammy for her solo album debut, Simple Pleasures, which was followed by a three-year tour with Alison Krauss and Union Station. She refocused her jazz sensibility and formed the Alison Brown Quartet in 1996 with John R. Burr (piano), Larry Atamanuik (drums) and husband Garry West (bass). Leaving Cottondale, her duet with Bela Fleck, won her a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental in 2000.
